How would I use this package?

I'm afraid I am only providing maintenance for this library now, and won't have the time to provide usage examples, sorry. If anyone has a PR demonstrating how to use this library (for reading or writing) I will happily merge it. I can also deal with specific questions of "I tried this but am stuck", but beyond that I don't have time. Sorry.
