Merging GPU Support #40

I will gradually be bringing over the GPU functionality from my 'dirty' codebase into a cleaner version here which can be easily reviewed and merged.

The relevant changes start from 9c9c502 The changes made can be seen by clicking on the individual commits shown below this post, 'total' changes can be seen by clicking on the 'Files changed' tab above this post.
