Is Facebook Chat for Desktops completely gone? #60

This is not an issue, but more like a discussion / disclaimer / whatever... Sorry for it in advance.

So, they've first created their chat with open technologies (Jabber/XMPP right?), so apps like Pidgin could use it as they were used to... Or at least gave them less work to put that working. Then they added uncommon features like picture attachments as web links, weird emotes, "seen" messages, while removed normal features like away/busy status, that were not implemented in the original protocol nor they gave any support. Then we started looking for the original Facebook app, since we could maintain the online experience in the desktop... Just because we want to ~chat~, not browse Facebook all day long. And of course, tons of friends started moving from weirdo Live Messenger and other services into Facebook Chat, since they're used to use Facebook or the mobile apps. And now we're locked into having to have a heavy webpage opened, occupying all the space in the screen, just to have tiny chat windows opened under it, to talk to our friends, if we prefer to have it in the same place we're everyday - the computer, with it's physical keyboard.

Will other services (such as Pidgin) stop working completely, just like happened to Miranda, IMO.im and others? Is there any hope for those who are "condemned" to Facebook Chat?

Since this discussion is about internal Facebook plans, and I'm a Facebook employee, I'm going to have to sit out. But I'm glad to hear people's feedback.

Fbmessenger says it will stop working on march 3rd, but as of march 4th it's still working.

@igorsantos07 Well, the third party clients didn't stop functioning, but they don't quite have the same functionality as the official app or the webchat, or a similar look. You don't get discussion history, can't send images/files, etc. I guess that's lost unless someone decided to make an app that pretends to be the official mobile app.
