mDesktop will not open. #23

mDesktop will not open and is not even on my computer though I made a small donation. Small because I don't know you and I have a feeling I don't want to. I will ask PayPal to get the money back.

Hey there!

Sorry for the issues. I will gladly refund your donation, but Id love to understand why mDesktop won't open. This is the first time I've heard of this.

What happens when you open mDesktop? Is there an error message? Is the icon present in the system tray?

Thanks!

Hi; The icon is in the system tray and in the start menu. When I click on it, a window opens which says “Could not close the previous instance of this script. Keep waiting? Yes/No?” There was and is no previous instance. I checked ‘Task Manager’ to be sure and there is nothing there. barstand

If it's in the system tray then it's running.

What happens when you press alt+2 or right click the system tray icon?

barstand commented 10 years ago

Nothing happens when I do either. barstand

Have you figured out what is happening and why I am having a problem with mDesktop? Do you have a manual or other info explaining how to use it? barstand

Hi barstand,

I'm just starting my day so I haven't had a chance to look into it yet. When you open mDesktop nothing should happen, it runs in the background. Then pressing alt+desktop number, so alt+2 or alt+4 will switch to that set of windows. You downloaded mDesktop from getmdesktop.com right? http://github.com/octalmage/mdesktop has some instructions.

MPagel commented 10 years ago

(I personally use control - arrow to switch to the next desktop and control-alt-number to send to a different desktop).

Barstand: When you checked "TaskMonitor" were you looking at the details tab (second tab at the top)? mDesktop won't show under the applications/main tab, as it is not an application with a window open on your system, but is instead a background process. If you instructed mDesktop to install/run as an administrator task, it's possible that it is not running under your main user account and is not visible even from the details of TaskMonitor there unless you click the box that says "show all tasks from all users" (or something similar, depending on which flavor of Windows you are using).

I'm going to close this since this isn't an issue with mDesktop. Please send me an email at jason@stallin.gs if you still need a refund.
