npm install robotjs not working #590

I am trying to install robotjs. For that purpose, I have nodeJS on Visual Studio Code. This the error i get.

Did you follow Building section in the README?

I observe the same problem with Electron10. When modules are installed, electron-builder rebuild them and the process failed. Issue can be reproduced with my sample https://github.com/Sergey-Churilin/Electron-samples/tree/electron10-robotjs

Did you follow Building section in the README?

Using the building section doesn't help at all, the build tools install, but you can't install robotjs

What finally worked for me was using the VS Build tools 2017 and having the same node version as the one that electron uses internally.

Please ensure you have the required dependencies before installing:

Windows

Mac

Linux

Install node-gyp using npm: npm install -g node-gyp

Then build: node-gyp rebuild

native node modules (like robotjs) need a build process after install which is done with node-gyp. the node-gyp toolset itself requires some other prerequisites in order to run. this is what is required for windows:

I think recent versions of nodejs installer for windows include the C++ redistributable. but you need to install Python separately as described in the error logs you've posted.
