Material's approach might be what makes sense for us in the long term, because applying branding to Sketch components is ... sort of weird, to say the least. I'm investigating but it's pretty back-burnery right now in terms of priority.

Material basically has its own little app (https://material.io/tools/theme-editor/) that generated all the Sketch component you'd need, based on your brand variables, which is kinda neat.

There's also a Glitch theme playground type thing, which is sort of the other end of things but could be a neat thing to play with: https://glitch.com/~material-theme-builder
