✏️ [ FEAT REQ ] Attach Gif/Videos in message #115

ZicPL commented 6 months ago

I know that adding a GIF to messages isn't the most important feature, but I think many people would be very grateful to you ;)

Bryantdl7 commented 4 months ago

You also cannot attach videos.

I know the quality sucks over MMS, but the AOSP message app can even do this, albeit it is a terrible app :)

octoshrimpy commented 2 months ago

@ZicPL we've discussed this over on the matrix channels, and for gifs (if your keyboard doesn't do them) you can use ewesticker, available on fdroid.

@Bryantdl7 that's a good point. due to mms compression i don't think I have ever sent a video through that protocol, but will look into it.

ZicPL commented 2 months ago

@octoshrimpy Thank You for Your reply and recommendation of the program: "Ewesticker". It's great but I had problems with its configuration. Now I've converted .apng to gif and it works great. I didn't know anything about channels on the matrix. Like me, many people may not know about egzist skcker/gifs independently of Your app (and keyboard app). It would be worth adding information about "Ewesticker" in the description Ypur app for people like me (without access to the matrix and knowledge of sticker app). I'll leave the closure of the topic to You because I see that You are continuing the conversation with Bryantdl7.

@Pinaz993 this would be something to add to the wiki.

I've been digging into imessage and RCS protocols recently, and may have a solution to tinker with sometime in the near future.

as far as attaching video/audio/ any file, I think there would need to be a warning if file is larger than 1MB as that is the safest assumption for carrier MMS limits.

ZicPL commented 1 month ago

@octoshrimpy If the file is larger than 1 MB, I always get an error sending MMS. It would be nice to see a warning message. It's a shame that operators set a limit of 1 MB..

octoshrimpy commented 1 month ago

@ZicPL is this in quik with compression settings turned on?

ZicPL commented 1 month ago

@octoshrimpy Yes, I've set the compression of MMS attachments to 1000 KB in QUIK (version 4.0.7). That's how MMS, e.g. photos, are sent. A higher value -> 2000 KB showed a message about failure to send the message (the same for the option without compression)

RCS support would be amazing, nobody has pulled it off yet in the open source world
