Multilingual site #6

Right now, we have only English on this site. But, we are getting to have quite a few Spanish-speaking users, and I'd like to see us have a Spanish version of the site at some point. I'd like to make room now, so that the only thing that makes English special later is the default splash page when the headers request a language we don't have (or don't request a language at all).

I imagine we will need to move the content around somehow to put the English site in a subdirectory or something. Would this require changing our URLs? Or maybe there is magic available that automatically hands out the correct page for each language using our existing URLs, so it seems like the site is written in each person's native language for any language we have pages for. That would be excellent.

It seems like changing URLs would affect search engine results, and also people's bookmarks, so if that's what internationalization requires and we're going to do it, we should do it before any tool releases.
