Gradient incorrect in background image #60

Bug report

What is the current behavior?

The y-gradient on the background image is applied incorrectly.

[ ] On wide screens, it's applied only in the section container, not to the actual image.
[ ] The transparency is not fully opake at the bottom.
[ ] Looks like a linear gradient so doesn't have a gradual fade out

What is the expected behavior?

[ ] needs to change from 100% to 0% so that the colour at the bottom of the image is matching the background colour.
[ ] The gradient should be applied to the bottom half of the image only, so the upper half is fully bright
[ ] The gradient should be a cubic bezier so there's no sharp transition
