For Debian mpdecimal / libmpdec(-dev) have been added to the PPA to ensure the builds for php-decimal complete and can be installed on the target systems. I would love to see a similar solution for Ubuntu.

The alternative is to build libmpdec from source on the installation target and install the decimal extension using pecl.

Currently, mpdecimal / libmpdec(-dev) is missing from the latest Ubuntu repo, which means that the build for php-decimal fails (https://launchpad.net/~ondrej/+archive/ubuntu/php/+build/28141360).
