The 8pin DIN connector is shown from the back (solder side), yes. This is how I see it, too. Is your setup working?
I have issues and can not get the tracking mode to work.
The kit is soldered and the sketch is running. The serial monitor is showing the following after Master (FT818 TX) and Slave (FT187 RX) is connected as proposed.
Init FT817 Master Init FT817 Slave FRQ slave:0 FRQ master:0
Should the frequncy be readable here already?
I checked the soldering twice and did not find any deviataions from the plan.
The 8pin DIN connector is shown from the backside, right?
On the RJ45 I checked the voltages on pin 1 to pin 2 and 7 (GND) = 13.3 Volt - That is OK
So pin 1 on RJ45 is on the left side when looking from the top, right?
Lets start from here and see what we can find out.

Yes, you need to see frequency here. Do you have set speed of both FT817 to 9600??

I use a FT818 and FT817. Yes in Setup Mode No. 14 CAT RATE is 9600 on both. In the sketch is SERIAL also set to 9600 In the serial monitor aslo.
When I start the Arduino without having the FT817/8 turned on the result is the same: Init FT817 Master Init FT817 Slave FRQ slave:0 FRQ master:0 What should I check on the FT`s ACC out ?
You must have baud rates set correctly or else even pushing the button will seem like it is not working. It happened to me. --Kevin (KK4YEL)

So pin 1 of RJ45 is on the left side, when you are looking from the top towards the arduino
I think I did something wrong with the RJ45 cabels going to the MASTER & SLAVE DIN connectors. I reversed it 180 degrees and will change it on the DIN connectors as sson as I get some new DIN connectors.
I will report about my learings ASAP.
Got new 8pin mini DIN connectors. The system is working fine now. @ok1cdj the quality of the delivered 8pin connectors was not that nice. The soldering pins are made for a one time shoot. Anyway, great kit. Tnx fer your effort, @ok1cdj 72/3 de sTef DM5TU !
@ok1cdj One issue just turned out. If I change the Master (TX 818) & Slave (RX 817) the controller does not work. The 818 needs to be my MASTER. The voltage output of the 817 on the ACC port is 12.9V about 0.4 V lower than on the 817. Is the 12.9V too low for the kit @ok1cdj ?
@DM5TU i have not FT-818 in my hand. I have two FT-817. There is 5V LDO in Arduino. All with more than 7V is OK. There is 10R resitor in FT-817 as fuse in schematic of FT-817 in ACC connector. I don't know why it not works with both for you.
@ok1cdj TNT fer ur reply. Yes until now I do not know either. May I will compare the schematic from the 817 with the 818. Maybe we see a difference, but the over 12V output should ne enough for the Arduino. Great kit but please supply better 8 Pin Mini DIN plugs in the future. I now used the ones from REICHELT.DE at 0.88€ per pcs. Part-No.: SE-DIO M08 they worked well. 73 de sTef DM5TU
I suggest you clarify the pin outs digram. Is it looking at the back of the connector (from the solder side) ? It is best to explain so there is no doubt.
