xy_vsfilter_test_20111030 fails to Load at all if Hi10p Video is played using LAV Filters

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Play any Hi10p video with ASS Sub using LAV Filters 0.37

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Only Hi10p Video/Audio plays. No VSFilter Icon in Tray.
No Problems with 8-bit Videos

Please provide any additional information below.
MPC-HC + ffdshow + vsfilter = No Problems with 10bit & 8bit
MPC-HC + LAVFilters + vsfilter = vsfilter fails to Load (no tray icon) with 
10bit videos. No issues with 8bit Videos & ASS Subs.

Problem occurs due to most probably...
LAV Filters display Hi10p as p010/p016 in => p010/p016 Out. vsfilter prevented 
from loading.
ffdshow display Hi10p as p010/p016 In => YV12 Out. vsfilter loads fine for both 
10bit & 8bit.

Please fix this problem. 
(ffdshow is no longer developed. LAV Filters is basically best for Hi10p 
because of its p010/p016 in => p010/p016 Out)

Cannot reproduced. I'm using LAVFilters 0.37, everything is alright with the 
sample (in mpc-hc).

I'll assume you're using madVR. Then you can press Ctrl+J to get the OSD 
information, in which P010 can be seen if the decoder is really using P010 and 
YV12 instead if the decoder is indeed outputing YV12. To turn the OSD 
information off, simply press CTRL+J again.

i don't use madvr at all only ffdshow & LAV Filters
ffdshow shows what its output on tray icons tool tips
i will chk again
maybe i need to update mpc-hc

updated MPC-HC to 1.5.3.3757 (latest)
still same issue :(
what weird is that if i disable p010/p016 from LAV Video Decoder
vsfilter loads but causes sync issues & slow performance like before
it seems that vsfilters p010 conflicts with LAV p010 somewhere

no issues with ffdshow
but ffdshow is not that good for Hi10p because of YV12 output. it means it 
converts 10bit to 8bit before it hits the display.

I can confirm this issue, but strangely, it doesn't happen when using madVR, 
only happen with MPC-HC internal video renderers (tested with WMR-9 renderless, 
EVR and EVR CP).

i can't use madvr strangely madvr fails to load on my Windows XP SP3
i have disabled all MPC-HC internal filters
i use MPC-HC Options => Playback => Output => Overlay Mixer (Default)
LAV filters outputs 10bit to p010 with Overlay Mixer but vsfilter fails to load

According to what I've read, I don't think it is possible to output 10 bit into 
overlay mixer, vmr-9 or evr cp. And the issue may be due to that in your 
settings, xy-VSFilter is required to deal with P010/P016 input and YV12 output, 
but it cannot currently, so the request is rejected. If you uncheck both P010 
and P016 options in LAV, then you may get xy-VSFilter auto load again.

VSFilter still doesn't Load if p010 enabled in LAV Video Decoder

It says that LAV is conected to Video Renderer, using RGB32 as output format. 
Not P010.

If it is really conected to a filter which accepts P010, the subtype should be

My MEDIASUBTYPE shows either YV12 or RGB32 after enabling VMR-9

this is what Confusing me where it shows MEDIASUBTYPE_P010

The “Enumerated media type” part only lists all the format you've checked.
Anyway, it is a critical issue.

Just to be clear, since there seems to be a bit of confusion.

There is no point in using P010/P016 unless xy-VSFilter is able to output 
P010/P016 to a renderer or some other filter which supports it as input. If you 
are using VMR/EVR/Overlay which don't accept 10-bit formats, just let the video 
decoder do its thing and pass dithered 10bit->8-bit to VSFilter. This is 
faster, so there is no reason you wouldn't want to do this if using those 
renderers. 

'Enumerated media type' are just a list of a filters supported media types. The 
'Connection media type' is the only one which matters, as the format which the 
two filters have negotiated form a connection with.

There does appear to be a bug though, since xy-VSFilter isn't doing a 'dynamic 
format change' to an 8-bit format if the filter/renderer connected to the 
output pin doesn't support 10-bit formats.

This is what currently happens:
10-bit video -> CoveAVC/LAV_Video output P010 -> xy-VSFilter tries to output 
P010 -> VMR9/EVR/Overlay can't make a P010 connection -> xy-VSFilter's 
connection fails and a new graph is automatically built without VSFilter.

Workaround:
Disable your video decoder from outputting P010/P016 if not using madVR.
(I'd be good if xy-VSFilter handled such situations more gracefully though)

Do you get p010 output on Hi10p video with LAV Filters alone (madvr disabled)?
just want confirm if madvr is compulsory for p010

No you don't. With LAV Filters alone and madVR disabled you are restricted to 
8-bit formats only. Blame Microsoft. 

At the present time, madVR is compulsory for both P010 and P016.
