Curation workflow #38

Open mattfullerton opened 9 years ago

mattfullerton commented 9 years ago

I notice that some of the info for the new metadata (Issue #34) was already being collected on the form (e.g. launch date and publisher type) whereas some of the old metadata (tags) was not being collected. What is the current workflow? Do we want a second sheet that draws on the responses sheet to at least reshuffle the form responses so its easier to copy/paste? Or do we rather want to encourage 90% of contributors to edit the DB directly and we can cope with the other 10% being a bit of manual work?

@mattfullerton i think we could definitely add tags to the form. We also need to think of a better method for updates (as opposed to new submissions ...)

@mattfullerton having curated a few datasets so far it's a BIG +1 for shuffling the form columns to match the curated columns. With such a backlog we have to make it much easier.

Other ideas include asking submitters to optionally provide the location in lat lon. When curating overseas entries I'm not confident on locations.

API submission quality is poor. There must be common patterns for URLs for each type of portal. We should provide help text.

I still don't understand all the Tabs & Columns in the Google sheet.

@Stephen-Gates - Totally agree we need to streamline things and sorry I've been a bit busy the last few days but I do now have a bit more time for dataportals. Is there a common time period we can find to maybe have a short call to get on the same page and address the most urgent issues? Just email me or skype (id same as email address).

@Stephen-Gates can we do the shuffle of the columns in the form sheet - this won't break the form.

Sure. happy to do anything to make the contribution and curation process easier.
