As a data use case

morchickit commented 7 years ago

This issue is to see if we can connect between Colombia and open data Kosovo to research air pollution data and the index. @tlacoyodefrijol status?

dannylammerhirt commented 7 years ago

As part of my research for this category I established some links with EPAs and researchers in this field. Also we have connections to people who were directly involved in this topic in Macedonia (one of the most polluted countries that we know of).

I'm happy to connect more closely with @tlacoyodefrijol how we can move this forward.

The status is:

[] I had a call with Colombia, Medellín to be exact. There is a group there working on air quality issues and the government might be open to using a standard since they're experimenting with how to make that data available. [] ILDA developed a standard to use with air quality in Latin American cities. The initial partners didn't adopt for different reasons but the standard is there and they want to find out the usability of it. They developed an app for publication. [] I'll put them in contact and see if we can push the Medellin government to implement. [] I'll contact Open Data Kosovo to see what they're doing. I think part of their work is in Macedonia @dannylammerhirt.

So next step would be having calls with both possible partners and from there make a plan. With this write the proposal for Hewlett for data use.

I spoke with a group 'A Lab in the air' in France who are working on air quality data. I spoke with their lead Anne Berlancourt and will update here when I find out more.

morchickit commented 7 years ago

Don't forget that Hewlett prefer if we spend money in the global south. So we collaboration is great, but it will be hard to do with France alone. Just reminding.

@tlacoyodefrijol Having talked to @morchickit this morning, I'd like to chat with you about your conversations with the teams from Kosovo/Colombia next week. I'll reach out to organise a time

StephenAbbott commented 7 years ago

Hey @tlacoyodefrijol. Do you have any notes from your calls with the Kosovo or Colombia teams that I could have a look at? Also, which days are you working on GODI this week? Would be great to put a quick call in our diaries to chat about this, ideally Thursday or Friday

StephenAbbott commented 7 years ago

Oscar and I discussed progress with these conversations during a call on Thursday 1st June. Email outreach has been done to the Kosovan and Colombian teams by Oscar. Oscar to copy Stephen in if these teams reply. Meanwhile, Stephen will examine remaining GODI funding to confirm whether or not we have more money for external research.
