Alter (or remove) pie-chart on front page #54

Open anderspeders opened 10 years ago

From request:

"- "Add amounts on the pie chart on homepage": the issue is the foliwing : there is a big "other" sector and the cabinet thinks it is not optimal. They suggest 2 things : step 1, Louise, could you see if we can replace some "other" sectors by real one (like "eau et assainissement", "gouvernance" etc.) - if so, Anders, could we show the percentage (not the amount)? Step 2 : if the "other" sector still big they suggest to hide the entire pie"

If this requires a lot of work to alter the pie chart, I suggest we simply remove it entirely.

markbrough commented 10 years ago

I vote against step 1, also because I don't really have much more time to work on the data this week. I would suggest removing the entire pie.

anderspeders commented 10 years ago

Ok, as this will also depend on new data from the ministry I suggest that we remove the pie chart entirely.

@Yohan: If you agree, could you remove the pie chart?

yohanboniface commented 10 years ago

humm, I've not problem with the core of the question, but I've some concern about homepage balance: we have roughly a content column on the left, and a "marketing" one on the right; this last one is already much longer than the left one. So, removing the pie chart means rebalancing the page, which is not just one minute, given that I think it's always better to keep separated "content" area from "ad-marketing-or-whatever".

Out of curiosity, why is splitting "Autre" sector much work on our side?

anderspeders commented 10 years ago

As an answer to the visual balance / composition: Could we extend the list of "Les derniers projets" from 5 to 10 projects to fill up the space?

That's an option, yup :)

anderspeders commented 10 years ago

Great. Let's go with this.

Ahem:

ERROR: Permission to okfn/piati.git denied to yohanboniface.
anderspeders commented 10 years ago

Yikes. Trying to fix this.

anderspeders commented 10 years ago

pinging @tryggvib for guidance.

trickvi commented 10 years ago

Sorry about that. I forgot that permissions are not transferred with the repository when it is transferred. Should be fixed now.

trickvi commented 10 years ago

Accidentally closed the pie chart issue because I thought it was a permissions issue :)

yohanboniface commented 10 years ago

Thanks :)

I've pushed and updated the demo site. I personally think it's a step backward because we are loosing an overwiew information and some rhythm on the left column. The "last projects" block was not really designed for being so long, thus it turns in a dull list imho. So I'd prefer spend a little more time on refining the chart. But I wait for instructions. ;)

I agree with @yohanboniface but since this is work for our client and this makes them look bad (because they have a big sector saying Other which I would immediately think: "This one is for the corruption" which it probably isn't but that would be the feeling I get).

There's not much we can do except tell them that now the site looks worse and they should really improve this themselves and not put stuff under Other if they can avoid it.
