Be able to classic entries by category (aka tag, theme, topic)

Be able to filter on a given category and perhaps indicate category in some prominent way (coloring??)

Very much yes -- e.g. the ancient wine timeline I shared with you was originally put together to be displayed in a project Nick Rabinowitz was working on (related to timemap.js), in which the different types of evidence were categorized and colored by category: extremely important for complex datasets in my field. Filter by category also very important.
