Napoleonic wars done http://timemapper.okfnlabs.org/rufuspollock/major-battles-napoleonic-wars - demonstrates use of size attribute and temporal shading.

I'd be happy to provide another example (cultural history), but I can't create a time map with the first 2 rows of data:

  1. data: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AgMQuQ9EoBCAdGFFLTZock1Hb3hDRlVUSVJ1ZDRvT1E&output=html
  2. spreadsheet is published, visibility set to "Anyone who has the link..."
  3. while using the button Connect&Publish there's a message "Please fill this field" (in German): https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BXa5m6QCYAEpBKg.png:large

tweets (Oct. 25): https://twitter.com/ThTBln/status/393702581341417472 https://twitter.com/ThTBln/status/393706376926474241 https://twitter.com/ThTBln/status/393706095559991297

@thtbln sorry for slow reply. Issue if you are using "published" doc url - you just want the original spreadsheet url which is https://docs.google.com/a/okfn.org/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgMQuQ9EoBCAdGFFLTZock1Hb3hDRlVUSVJ1ZDRvT1E#gid=0 (worked for me). "Please fill in the field" is because the url you have does not work (not very informative message!)

@thtbln I was just about to say the same thing as @rgrp, except I was also going to point out that the URL you want is found in your doc's Share box.

@rgrp: It's confusing that you have to publish to the web and then copy a URL that doesn't have anything to do with the publication. Would it be possible to get TimeMapper to understand the "published" URL in the future?

thtbln commented 10 years ago

@rgrp: Thanks for your reply. There must be something else. First I tried https://docs.google.com/a/okfn.org/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgMQuQ9EoBCAdGFFLTZock1Hb3hDRlVUSVJ1ZDRvT1E#gid=0 and got the same message "Please fill in the field". Then I got the link from my original spreadsheet: shared_spreadsheet which is https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgMQuQ9EoBCAdGFFLTZock1Hb3hDRlVUSVJ1ZDRvT1E&usp=sharing With this link I got first the message, that the document is not accessible: message_not_accessible When I used "Connect and Publish" again, the message "Please fill in the field" followed. I also tried https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgMQuQ9EoBCAdGFFLTZock1Hb3hDRlVUSVJ1ZDRvT1E#gid=0 and https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgMQuQ9EoBCAdGFFLTZock1Hb3hDRlVUSVJ1ZDRvT1E with the same results.

Worked for me immediately using https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgMQuQ9EoBCAdGFFLTZock1Hb3hDRlVUSVJ1ZDRvT1E#gid=0. Here's the result: http://timemapper.okfnlabs.org/rufuspollock/sizilien

@thtbln we should really start a separate issue here rather than abuse this one (if we continue to find problems!)
