OK, on second pass, downloading files individually from the repo seems to result in AI files that open in Illustrator, but do not upload correctly to Ponoko.
But, downloading a zip of the whole shebang "neotrellis-monome-main", and then extracting the AI files from there, does result in files that upload OK to Ponoko. I guess something about the original download process I used fouled the .AI formatting just enough that the Ponoko uploader thought they were sus. Problem solved!
Gonna leave this up here, just in case anyone else using your files has similar issues. Whew! :-)
Hi there,
Scott here, one of the fine folk on the Ponoko customer team 😄 We're a laser cutting service in California.
We had a customer recently attempt to use your AI files to have the enclosure parts for this project manufactured with us. I downloaded the raw AI files from here:
https://github.com/okyeron/neotrellis-monome/tree/main/enclosure/individual-layers
This resulted in files that opened OK in Illustrator, but they did not upload successfully to our site. Something about the formatting or contents was preventing our AI parser from reading them in correctly.
I was able to remedy this by resaving them all as SVG v1.1 from Illustrator. Not sure exactly what the issue was with the originals, though; I didn't see any red flags in the layer structure 🤔 Also, resaving them as AI files (Illustrator 2020 format version) notably did not result in files that would successfully upload to our site. When resaving as SVG, though, I did get a "transforms are expanded" warning. Weird!
Anyhow, I thought I'd bring this up as it's possible more folks might try to use your files to put one of these together. Much better if the files are usable out of the gate via as many laser cutting services as possible, I reckon! I'm unable to attach the resaved SVG files I generated, but I'm happy to make them available to you for your convenience. Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help!
