No idea how this would be viable, since looking through solid opaque 3D objects is notoriously difficult. Suggestions and discussion welcome, I am happy to do most/all of the implementation if presented with a good idea - I've done plenty of 3D orthogonal projection code before so this shouldn't present too much of an issue.
