Boris crashing #17

Hi, and thanks a lot for the great app! I have drafted a project to conduct focal observations. The project contains quite a lot of modifiers, but runs very nicely on my laptop. When we try it on tablets/mobile phones, however, it crashes as soon as we start the observation. I have tried many different options, but the only optio that works is removing many modifiers, which is not really an option. Do you know why it happens? I attach you the project.

ps. The operating system of my laptop is Windows 10 Pro, but the problem emerges only using Androids. The computer I am using (where it works) is an AMD Ryzen 7 5700U, RAM 16GB, with BORIS v. 8.11.4, but on the tablets (which are different types - none working) we use BORIS v. 0.11 for Android.

I would be EXTREMELY grateful for any support!

Thank you!

Solved :). I think the problem occurs in Android just when one of the modifiers is a numeric variable. If you remove numeric variables, it works well. Thank you!

Hi Olivier,

I am Federica (Amici), one of the many happy users of Boris, which we now I would like to use to collect focal samples at our field site, with Bino Majolo.

We have a question about the visualization of the different modifiers. When you have several modifiers (or if you have many levels within a modifier, e.g. many partners), and you use a tablet to collect data, it is really hard to visualize all the modifiers, because a lot of lines become very thin and thus unreadable (see boris file). In Cybertracker (which I do not like that much, though), they solve this problem by putting (or giving the possibility to put) modifiers in more than one column (as in CT 1 file), also with the possibility to scroll down (as in CT 2).

Do you think this is something that could be implemented also in boris (i.e., dividing the screen into multiple columns, not just lines, and maybe even giving the possibility to specify how many columns you want), or is it very complicated and therefore not feasible?

We are asking because Marco (now on holidays) offered to try and accommodate some wish we might have to make boris even fancier :), so we hoped this is something that could be done :)

Thank you!

Hi Federica,

the issue should be fixed in v. 0.12 See https://github.com/olivierfriard/BORIS-App/releases/tag/v0.12
