intermittent timeline scrolling bugs in version 8.0.13 #475

Closed Sarah2022A closed 2 years ago

Sarah2022A commented 2 years ago

Yesterday and since installing BORIS, my up/down arrow keys advanced or reversed my video timeline by whatever time increment I set under "preferences >> fast forward/backward speed". Today, these same keys both advance the timeline (no reverse), by a variable time (about 2 and a half seconds but it increases and decreases) no matter what increment I set my preferences to.

The lateral arrow keys used to move the time line back or forward by one frame and intermittently still do. A moment later, the forward arrow key will advance the timeline by one frame, while the backward arrow key will advance it by 3,390 frames.

The menu ribbon bar buttons "frame forward" and "frame backward" are also affected. Yesterday, these buttons moved the video timeline forward or backward by one frame. Today, the "frame forward" button advances the video timeline by one frame, and the "frame backward" button advances the timeline by 3,298 frames.

I am using Microsoft windows 10. I have tried deleting the BORIS configuration file and restarting, to no effect.

sorry, I was reading from my phone. I will check this

Update - issues (scrolling jumps a large and variable number of frames, pressing scroll arrows in either direction both result in forward scrolling) occur in some video files and not others (same file type, filmed on same camera). Even within a single video file, some files can be scrolled normally at the start but then the scrolling issues kick in after a few minutes.

Is it possible to send me a sample of a video file that do not seek well?

Can we take this conversation offline? The footage is commercially sensitive and confidential, there are a few hurdles we would have to jump through to share it.

Sure, you can contact me via email. See the About page on the BORIS web site (www.boris.unito.it)

Olivier

Sarah2022A commented 2 years ago

Hi, I can't see an email address on the about page. I think I have worked out the cause - the files where the timeline scrolling issues occur are 60 frames per second, the files where it doesn't occur are 29.97 - I didn't pick it up initially because the 60 frames per second files scroll normally in some segments of footage but not others. Edit - comment above about "filmed on same camera" is incorrect - camera was modified to film at 60 frames per second part way through project.

Hi,

see http://www.boris.unito.it/pages/about.html

Did you try to re-encode your video to check if this problem is still present? See Tools > Resize / re-encode video
