Ok
(was in my mind since I own an archos 5IT too ;) )
Not sure there is an api to know whether phone is GSM capable but, anyway I'll
find a solution at least testing the brand/device model.
Just a remark (not important at all but ;) ): 3G, GPRS, EDGE are data layers
and even without data your phone can make calls. That's the reason why on your
phone you have probably two indicators : one for the signal strength that
correspond to the gsm signal on which voice calls relies and another that show
you data channel (edge, G(prs) 3g, hdspa ... ). On this channel all ~datas~
packets are exchanged.
Was just for your information ;)

-12-27 *archos edition* gives a first preview of the contact integration. It
use privates apis so I can't directly integrate it in the main application
trunk. But that's just a manifest to change.
So, we can imagine publishing this version on archos market and the other on
the android market.
GSM is still proposed as choice in many menus, but proof is done that I can
detect if the phone can handle "tel:" uris (this will be integrated in the main
dev) - only integrated with "outgoing call chooser" list.

Thank you very much for the "archos edition" - had a little problem with it -
programm crashes if the router has no internet connection.

Is it a force close or an ANR (application not responding)?
If it's a force close, can you provide me logs (see on the wiki there is a page
that explain how to send me logs).
