battery improvement suggestion #202

battery life is horrible on 3G.
Just a thought. Wouldn't it be possible to keep the registration alive on Edge 
which uses very little battery and only switch to 3G when making or receiving a 
call? (switch to 3g on incoming or outgoing calls but go to edge on standy).

of course this only applies when on 3G. When on wifi this is mute.

It's impossible to choose the type of GSM data connection. I'm just notified of 
changes.

There is probably things that should be improved regarding this changes and the 
way I re-register. But that's really hard to test and debug for me since I 
can't use 3G for VOIP.
Besides there is points that make it again more complicated : if you change 
between 3G and GPRS for example nothing ensure me that registration is still 
valid and calls can then fail...
