LTI400HN01 #12

This may be a preemptive post. But I am making some significant headway on the Samsung LTI400HN01 model. I found a supplier on alibaba for the screen and controller. I will be ordering the LVDS controller tomorrow, shipping takes 2-3 days.

https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Stock-Samsung-High-Quality-40-inch_1600789735793.html?spm=a2700.details.you_may_like.11.51bb68c3PHk6PM

Since it is night over there, the sales rep is contacting the engineer and will confirm which controller to purchase.

I think it is goin to be as easy of a plug and play as the fixes for the BOE and the LM40SAMFHD700AG25WV.

I initially purchased the controller for the LM40SAMFHD700AG25WV model, however this is incorrect. It is apparent by comparing the LVDS cables - the contacts are totally different despite all fitting together. This controller powered up the back light, but did not transmit any picture to the screen. Which makes sense.

I was wondering. Has anyone used the existing power source to power their raspberry pi 4? There are a few open 5v 3.5A pins. This could be a slick way to minimize cords.

Please keep me posted. I've been going a different route trying to software hack the mirrorOS. Which hasn't been going well :(. Been thinking there got to be a way I can bypass and hook up a hdmi pass through....

Thanks for finding this! Looking forward to hearing what the sales rep comes back with. This could be a great drop-in upgrade for the Samsung panels.

I've been thinking along the same lines as you for using power internally for a cleaner look. As an alternative to using the 5v 3.5a pins, are there any viable options to use a buck converter along a power cable that is no longer used?

Ok the supplier, James, got back to me. He is going to program this universal lvds lcd controller for the Samsung screen, include an internal power cord, and a compatible lvds cord. Here is the link. I ordered 2 (just in case I fry one 😂).

James is a little slow to respond, but he is confident it will work. I will update you all in a week when the controllers arrive.

Looking forward to your update. When you do, I'll make sure to update the instructions so other folks with this board know what to order.

I am officially bummed. The controllers (I ordered 2 just in case I burned one out) arrived after a few weeks of prep and shipping from China, and didn't work plug and play. I have messaged the supplier, and am waiting on a response. I will update when I hear back.

On the bright side, I have successfully powered my pi4 using an existing vacant 5v 3.5A pin and ground pin on the power board. I soldered the 5v 3.5A + and GRND wires onto the USB-c power wires. It works like a charm even with a little powered cooling fan on top.

Also the speakers will work hooked up to any small amp/audio output.

For this model, I tried an off the shelf controller (link). I connected it similarly to https://github.com/olm3ca/mirror/issues/8 attachment_2 8, meaning that I only replaced the LVDS cable and let the rest of the screen remain powered by design....I was able to power a RPi 3B+ from the USB port on this controller. Currently running Pi OS Bookworm and execute MagicMirror2 via terminal. attachment_3 attachment_1 Next will try to run script on automatically on boot, probably replace the camera with an 16MP ArduCam, and try to tap into the speakers via RPi's audio jack.

Which LVDS cable did you use? Do you think it would work with this controller https://www.ebay.com/itm/166580220209 for the LM40SAMFHD700AG25WV or no?

LM40SAMFHD700AG25WV

Hey! The board I got came with its own LVDS cable. I wouldn't know if it would work or not.. sorry...

I recommended talking to the seller directly since some of them might be able to flash the boards with the correct firmware, given the panel's datasheet. The LM40SAMFHD700AG25WV repository recommends a specific cable and controller: https://ebay.us/HkicYV

Thanks for the reply and apologies, I realize now that my question wasn’t clear so I’ll just ask a clarifying one on your original comment.

So, you’re saying that you got a board and LVDS cable from link and that it worked with the LTI400HN01 using a raspberry pi displaying through usb? Did you have any special instructions to the seller like repinning the LVDS cable or did you just buy as is and it worked out the box?

I bought this one, it was not compatible (as is) unfortunately. I am currently mapping the pins and am going to try to repin the lvds cable socket to match the LVDS pins with video card pins. It seems that samsung has made the screen pins a little bit different than the universal cards - probably due to its proprietary Mirror use and to keep hoodlums like us at bay haha.

wellp. I have burned up another controller board. I think I am just going to buy one of the compatible screens on alibaba :(

I used the provided display data sheet and labeled each wire on the LVDS cable (this board has some tricky shit, the white and blue do not always correlate to positive or negative AND there are not standard colors for the grounds vs VDD connections). I then repinned the 30 pin connector to match my new controller board. It still burned up.

That's really too bad @grhill424 - sounds like it was a good attempt. The Mirrors with BOE panels are truly the easiest for this whole setup. I had hoped yours would work too. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

hacstest04f commented 1 week ago

@olm3ca, do you know what time periods the BOE or the LM40SAMFHD... panels were sold? Or which time period the Samsung LTI400HN01 panels were sold?

Just wondering if I get a mirror purchased in 2019 which panel it might be.

olm3ca commented 1 week ago

I'm not sure @hacstest04f but I can tell you is that I ordered mine in December 2022. I think the BOE models were much later in production than 2019...

hacstest04f commented 1 week ago

@grhill424, if you know, can you tell us about what time period your mirror was purchased? Trying to see if I can guestimate when the retail versions were purchased.
