I would definitely prefer a list style for these items, possibly with a set of added information to be displayed (last modified, created, size). Perfect would be if this could also incorporate info from "novel word count" plugin: things like pages, characters, words, etc.

In any case: FANTASTIC WORK... ROCK ON!

Totally agree. I quickly added the function as a sort of proof of concept (for #2) by reusing the starred files code.

I'll surely implement more features and maybe add an option to choose how are displayed.

That sounds fantastic.

It would be great to see this maturing into a great starting point for a new tab. Things to consider (IMO):

pinned items
"containers" for pinned items that allows for context based collections that are in the works at the moment
maybe even pages to cycle through to allow for more customised home tabs
