By default works only in fullscreen mode. You can change it in config.
I've already tried that, as well as https://github.com/oltodosel/interSubs/issues/16#issuecomment-453750550 Everything works in KDE though. I think the Mutter compositor is just different. I don't need this script now that I've found https://github.com/FreeLanguageTools/vocabsieve. Feel free to close this issue.
GNOME version is 43.3. Distro is Fedora 37. The result is the same for X11 and Wayland. The subtitles are shown normally with KDE. Video of the problem
