Hi!
I'm from Israel (Jewish beleiver in Christ)
It's a well known problem with semetic languages.
Probably applying: dir="RTL" all over the Hebrew will solve it!

PLEASE & THANK YOU!

I appricace your work!!

Hi,
I did turn on rtl in a previous version of and-bible but it was a mess and
in-line Strongs references made it worse because of poor Android bidi support
but I will look at turning this on again and see how it affects Hebrew (Modern
New Testament). If you can't wait you could go back to And Bible 0.0.13
(http://code.google.com/p/and-bible/downloads/list?can=1) which (I think) had
rtl turned on for specific rtl documents.

I sympathise with Jewish people wrt the poor rtl language poor support in
Android and in And Bible. I do hope to provide better support for rtl
languages in the future.

Martin

Hi Martin!
First - THANKS!

Another issue is mixing words with numbers (in Hebrew) which also cause a mess,
is it possible to try and make the numbers dissapear? in the OT in Hebrew
everything is in letters...

1 = א (a)
2 = ב (b)
3 = ג (c)
....

I have done some more investigation into this and although Android 2.2 supports
Hebrew, RTL support is not complete. RTL will work if only consonants are
displayed but as soon as a vowel is inserted the text direction becomes
confused.

This is what I have seen through experiments and is confirmed in
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1580#c149
"I'm running the froyo beta, and hebrew letters work, but in the browser RTL
only works when there are only consonants."

I am not giving up but I need to think again now.

You will have a few thusand Israeli believers android users counting on you ;)
b.t.w what about just putting it up as image?

or, having a version without any punctuation ?

Tnx!

The Modern Hebrew Bible to which you originally referred does not seem to
contain vowels. Are native Hebrew speakers happy with no vowels? Vowels are
considered essential by English people I know who study the Tanakh.

I have done some tests on the Modern Hebrew Bible and found that the colon at
the end of each verse also causes Android bidi problems but I think I can work
around it.

Would you be happy to e-mail me direct so that I can reply with some screen
prints for you to check (my Hebrew is almost nil)? help.andbible@gmail.com
comes direct to me and me alone.

I made some progress with Modern Hebrew which does not have Nikud/vowels
pointing.

The following link mentions the Nikud issue and holds out hope for an
improvement in the next Android update named Honeycomb:

Trying to guess when Honeycomb is due I notice that a Honeycomb tablet is due
out Feb 11:

The removal of vowels and addition of the rtl tag, which was removed in a
previous release, seems to have made Hebrew bible display acceptable.
