A site for Om #325

Open juliankrispel opened 9 years ago

juliankrispel commented 9 years ago

Right. Let's do this. I'm happy to help in terms of content but also acutely aware that I'm probably less qualified to curate. Relying on your guidance here @swannodette

brentvatne commented 9 years ago

@juliankrispel - maybe I'm out of the loop on this, are you offering to put a site together and asking for @swannodette to help you to review the content? If not, who would do the design and front end implementation? I don't think that would be the best use of @swannodette's time

GetContented commented 9 years ago

Ah, I wish I'd finished the next version of our CMS by now so I could offer that... seeing as it's built in Om.... replacing the current version which is built in Ember.

swannodette commented 9 years ago

@brentvatne @juliankrispel has been involved for some time and I'm happy to have him lead the charge on this issue. To everyone else let's keep this issue high signal to noise. Many thanks.

brentvatne commented 9 years ago

My apologies in that case! I'm happy to help as well

juliankrispel commented 9 years ago

Sorry that was a little goofy of me, I should have introduced myself. For reference, here's a log of our previous conversation on branding and the website etc...

Thanks for offfering help @brentvatne, I'll need plenty I'm sure

swannodette commented 9 years ago

@juliankrispel any chance we could get a proposed logo image for the omcljs org? :)

juliankrispel commented 9 years ago

Absolutely :)

raju-bitter commented 9 years ago

Great to see that you are working on a site for Om. @juliankrispel I like the logo and design, nice work. @swannodette I am happy to help with content as well, if you need more hands.

swannodette commented 9 years ago

@juliankrispel I haven't forgotten about this. As far as curation I think the simpler the introduction the better. I'm assuming we'll do the pages in markdown so that keeping things up to date won't be a problem. If you want to start on a design in a gh-pages branch please go for it at your convenience. I'm happy to discuss and collaborate on the content to populate the page(s) but I'm personally a fan of landing pages organized like those provided by Python, Haskell, Node.js, etc. Informative, to the point, and designed to look good and guide people to the right places for more information.

juliankrispel commented 9 years ago

@swannodette thanks. Apologies for the radio silence, I'm a bit overwhelmed with work atm. Should be back in action sometime in march!

raphaelboukara commented 9 years ago

Hello I will be very happy to contribute to this project, maybe for translate in french if need it for example, or anything else of course. my mail: raphael.boukara@gmail.com.

hura commented 9 years ago

Apologies for the noise in advance: I think you should consider using readthedocs.org (themable). The reason is that everything is indexed into Elasticsearch which means that you can easily search the documentation. Once a project grows it's IMO extremely important to have a good search. Thanks for reading.

pbowyer commented 9 years ago

Any assistance I can give to help this along, as it's been nearly 7 months since the last comment?

Tavistock commented 8 years ago

My documentation so far: http://tavistock.me/om/, should I continue?

I'll edit the docs to make urls face the correct places and organize them better if people are alright with my (minimal) efforts. Wanna make sure before I spend more time on it. It's just facebook's react website altered slightly (it's CC 4.0).

GetContented commented 8 years ago

@Tavistock Shouldn't it be built in Om? Seems highly ironic not to.

Tavistock commented 8 years ago

Om is not a static site generator. It should be built with a static site generator.

Having documentation built now is better than waiting on someone to built in Om. This issue is old, but all I have to do is spend maybe a couple of hours and I'll have it done.

GetContented commented 8 years ago

@Tavistock All good reasons (and I agree with them, largely), but they don't stop it being ironic :) Hopefully you won't take offense, I'm just explaining the point of view of someone completely fresh to the site. I'm not completely fresh, but I've often found it ironic when a tool advocating simplicity of building web applications or websites is not using itself for its own promo/doc site. (Such as is the case with Ember).

juliankrispel commented 8 years ago

We should use gh-pages, like @swannodette suggested.

The only reason this isn't done yet is that it has been an extreeeemely busy year for me.

If somebody could take care of the content, I could do the design!

darioghilardi commented 8 years ago

Hello, I just saw this open issue with my friend @sergiop and, considering that we have some free time at the moment, we’d love to help with the design and branding for Om. @juliankrispel is it still possible to submit some ideas about this?

juliankrispel commented 8 years ago

@darioghilardi the design and branding has been done, it's just a matter of putting together the content, and actually building the site that I can't find the time for. Really could use some help here

juliankrispel commented 8 years ago

@darioghilardi @sergiop I'd be happy to jump on a call and help you taking this on if you're willing.

darioghilardi commented 8 years ago

Sure, you can find me on the clojurians slack, feel free to send a PM. Unfortunately we can't help much with content too, we miss the necessary experience with Om.

If the branding is the one proposed in mid 2014 and nobody implemented it after two years, why not evaluating a refresh? Two years are a lot in terms of design. Worst case scenario: two proposal in the box, nothing will be lost.

I’d love to talk anyway and share the reasonings that brought you to the current design.

juliankrispel commented 8 years ago

ultimately it's really up to @swannodette
