Showing shapes counts for Z and T for Z = 4, T = 9

• will need to divide Z and T scroll bars into number of Zs and Ts rather than have slider - MU 1 below
• this also allows clicking to get to specific Z/T
• could have "Shape Distribution" check box in toolbar - - MU 2 below
• or could have showing on mouse-over - MUs 3 and 4 below

Breaks down when T or Z gets too large - example shows 99 Ts - just about works. See screenshots for next section to see how this looks when RHP expanded i.e. T scroll bar shorter.

Shapes Map

• under “Shapes” tab
• shows matrix of distribution of shapes over Z and T - MU 5 below
• mouseover shows the types of shape for each cell in the matrix - MU 6 below
• select cell shows that Z-T selection in Viewer
• filter by type using “Show All” drop down menu at top - MU 7 below
• this menu could conceivably offer additional/customised options in the future

Right-click menu on selected shape gives access to:

• actions on shape (as currently offered) - MU 8 below
• properties of shape (as currently in Inspector tab) - MU 9 below
• export of results

Points arising from discussion 16-04-28:

• try "heat map" on sliders idea to represent numbers of ROIs on Z and Ts - for sparse number of ROIs i.e. not all Z and Ts have ROIs - and numerous
• should the numbers on a T reflect all Zs for that T or only the current Z and vv.

The mockups below address 2 questions:

• can a "heat map" approach be used effectively on the sliders to indicate ROI distribution on Zs and Ts
• do the sliders look better without lines creating sections for each Z or T

Point:

• these presume the heatmap colours would be arbitrarily proportional - i.e. there would be no numerical scale attached to the colours just red for most, blue for least and white for none

My opinions:

• the lines should be included - particularly when there are a lot of Ts/Zs in a short scroll bar - and even more so when heat map is used and there are a number of contiguous sections/points with the same colour
• not very convinced by the heatmap idea - if do use it still need numbers on mouseover and ability to turn heatmap off

It is not easy for an uninformed user to dissociate the heatmap colors from the image colors (the LUT functionality is still missing in OMERO, so the user cannot use a different color coding on the image itself). I would definitely vote for inclusion of the lines (see @gusferguson 's comment above this one).

Reminder Note:

It would be good to hide the redundant Z and/or T sliders if there is only one section and/or point.

Heatmap might be difficult to understand on sliders But people before mentioned having a view of all the planes e.g. along z or along t will be useful so a heatmap in that context could be considered (similar to mock up on central panel)

I prefer sliders without lines between colours. Extra 'ink' on the page is not needed. But agree that more work is needed before this becomes understandable to users.
