Interpolation on MS Edge browser #369

From Edinburgh 2020 feedback: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1D4aCMZ3p8ZHoAT3q1I2v9A8PcvEXDjbTU-XLc9X58-E/edit "Windows (Edge?) does interpolation in figure, not on exported pdf though"

will-moore commented 4 years ago

Just tried the "pixelated vv interpolated" test with setting the panel DPI on Windows 10, latest Edge (81.0.416.58) and it seems to be working fine. We're using the sample code from http://phrogz.net/tmp/canvas_image_zoom.html to handle the "pixelated" appearance in the browser and that page also works in Edge. cc @pwalczysko Am I understanding this bug report correctly?

Am I understanding this bug report correctly?

I think you are assuming: the problem here is the pixelation, we want to get rid of this I guess from the outreach in Edinburgh: the problem here is that Edge is giving you interpolation, whether you want it or not (i.e. skewing the truth). Compared with FF, which does not do it with the same image.

Not sure whether we can fix it within Figure... But that is how I understand the "problem"

@pwalczysko Thanks - OK, so I understood the original report correctly. The trouble is that I can't reproduce it. Pixelation works fine for me in Edge on Windows 10. 🤷

So, basically "cannot repeat".

I think even the reporter in Edinburgh was perceiving this as a low priority problem
