Add top-level Git mailmap to normalize commit author variants #510

This mapping file aims to associate all commits from the same contributor to a single "First Name Last Name " author line. The University of Dundee or the Glencoe Software email address are used as the canonical address for current employees of these institutions. For contributors with an executed CLA, the email address specified in the CLA is used as the canonical one.

Not sure I have yet understood what a .mailmap file is for. Is it just for non-OME contributors who have more than 1 e-mail address, to avoid duplicating their name/e-mail in https://github.com/openmicroscopy/cla-audit/blob/main/cla_audit/cla.csv?

Yes, the Contributor Licensing Agreement defines a single canonical email address per contributor and the role of this mailmap file is to express the mapping for the variants of the author emails.

Is there anything else to do here?
