very slow drawing of screen #63

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
i have installed both versions 1.3 and 1.4. i think 1.4 is faster than 1.3 in
drawing of the screen (i am using an epad )

i had to uninstall and continue using version 1.2 which is the fastest i have
ever used, but CRASHES with big pdf files

Hm... interesting. Actually 1.3 and 1.4 version articifally slows speed of
rendering for smooth animation renderings. But for devices where I have tested
it don't looks like a big deal. Is speed really differs? Can you roughly
estimate speed boost in percents?

First I thought that the problem was the screen resolution 1024x600, oooceans1,
using an epad, and I using a flytouch 2 tablet, both with large screens.
But now after trying the 1.2 version, suggested, i don't think that anymore,
here is what i found:
Vudroid is rendering pages in blocks, you can see this here in this youtube
video (vudroid 1.2)--> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjlSd5Prsc8
that there only 2x2 blocks for rendering one page in portrait mode in the phone
in the video.
With my flytouch 2 tablet vudroid 1.2, i found recently that it also has 2x2
blocks per page.
But here(vudroid 1.4),(i made this video, sorry about the quality) there are
8x4 blocks in landscape mode, and 4x5 in portrait mode
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2sDmQ1pw3g
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpRBo5LSzpM
This is very annoying. With 1.3 version the same happens 8x4 and 4x5
But you can see in the first video that pdfdroid(1 block per page) and adobe
reader(sometimes 1 block other 1x2) doesn't has this problem so it is possible,
and vudroid 1.2 it's not perfect but is better than 1.3 and 1.4.
I´m personally still using pdfdroid and djvudroid for studying, because they
are extremely fast in comparison and have horizontal scroll lock. It´s a shame
that this old versions has rendering problems, when zooming they look blurry,
and are very uncomfortable for reading, but in "stock" zoom in portrait and
landscape mode the rendering definition is excellent.
Keep the good work, very useful software, thanks

Perhaps someone could say that the time needed to load the whole page in
pdfdroid is the same that loading it in vudroid 1.4 but with the difference it
renders by steps.
Well, it is Not. pdfdroid renders faster the whole page, and vudroid not only
is slower, but also only render the visible part of the page, so moving withing
the same page is also annoying. In pdfdroid when the page is rendered you can
go back and forward within the page with cero delays, because the whole page is
already rendered.
I'm trying to give constructive ideas sorry.
Why did you change the render from pdf/djvudroid to vudroid? i'm just curious.
They were faster.
Perhaps because of the problem of blurring when zooming?
there is no other solution maintaining the render?
this is off topic, but what about horizontal lock, why did you decide to remove
it?

The rendering of page in pdfdroid is preferable than vudroid,as it loads a
single page completely. The problem with vudroid is it is irritating(i dont mean
in rude way,it is my feedback) and straining to eyes ( flashing grey blocks
during loading of page) as it render only the visible part of page.In
vudroid,we cant go back and forward within the page smoothly.

i also wish there were horizontal lock like pdfdroid in vudroid.

in my opinion, pdfdroid 1.0 is the best first version of pdf reader compared to
any other first version of paid or free pdf viewer apps.i dont understand why
it was dropped.

i searched a lot for an pdf viewer that supports fullscreen viewing with
remembering pages on exit for android 1.6,your pdf application is the only one
that supports fullscreen pdf viewing with remembering pages on exit in android
1.6 version, all other paid or free apps supporting android 1.6 doesn't have
both features together, i really appreciate that.

i tried pdfdroid. until it loads 1 page i can go take a dump, don't like it.

indeed version 1.2 of vudroid is the best. much better than 1.4, thank you
lanos for pointing this out.

i'm on a 7" screen, 800x480 screen.

it loads a page from 2x2 blocks which is so much better than version 1.4 who
does it from tons of blocks.

i hope Pavel is considering our inputs and tries to get fixed the loading of
pages, caching them, whatever. some advanced options menu is welcomed to set
aggressive caching, increase memory usage, some logs, whatever we can tweak to
get the most out of our tablets.

Changes made in 1.3 and 1.4 is targeted for limited memory phones but now I see
that rendering for tablets is broken. I'm going to introduce more universal
rendering approach to use memory more efficient and hence increase rendering
speed.

I'm using an archos 101 tablet and version 1.4 is slow to render pages. Other
than that it is a very good pdf viewer, I hope you can add some options to
increase the speed. Maybe have the option to select "phone" or "tablet"
