Thinking on this further, this is more than I think the theme should take on as a built-in feature. To have titles included, the user can choose to not embed media in their site settings, resulting in square thumbnails with titles alongside them.

If media has more metadata beyond titles, I think it would be appropriate to send users to the media metadata page. The main use case I could see for displaying more metadata on the item metadata page would be to use some kind of art citation formatting. That kind of metadata display has a lot of room for variation in formatting, so I would leave that as something for the user to customize themselves.

When different items and media have different levels of details such as in our case, this really solves the difficult question of wether or not to show the media metadata, when they are often unimportant, but sometimes they are.

My feeling is that this is really up to individual projects to handle, and I would rather not have this theme make assumptions.
