What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Launch iPad version of Frotz
2.Run Lurking Horror, Enchanter, etc
3.

What is the expected output or behavior? What do you see instead?
Unreadable Story File

What version of Frotz are you using?
1.4

What version of iPhone/iPod Touch OS? (2.2.1, 3.0, 3.1.2, etc.)
3.1.3

What device model are you using (iPod Touch 2nd gen, iPhone 3G, etc.)
iPad

Please provide any additional information below.

The exact same .Z5 files work fine on the iPhone version of Frotz, I've
tested them on both platforms and even gone back and copied the same
versions from my pc to both platforms.

Some work fine like Deadline, Infidel, etc

Uploading via the web interface rather than through FTP fixed the issue for The
Lurking
Horror - is there a list of the "proper" infocom .z5 file names?

I think there is a race condition (timing dependent bug) in the FTP server that
only happens on the iPad simply
because it's a lot faster than an iPhone or other previous hardware, and it's
causing the files to transfer
incorrectly.
Thanks for reporting this...I'll look into it.

I've managed to transfer them all successfully through the web interface (so it
indeed
is an FTP issue with the iPad)

Could it be that perhaps the ftp transfer is not completing properly? Have you
tried a different FTP client?

Also, since this problem is about FTP, and not specific games, can you correct
the title of this bug report?

FYI, I just transferred a bunch of Infocom comes, including all of the Zork
games, in one FTP batch transfer, and they all work. Is it possible that some
people didn't transfer the files in "binary" format? Most FTP clients default
to "automatic" or "ascii" mode, so it's possible that the client didn't use
binary mode. I told my FTP client (Fetch) to force "binary" mode, because I
don't trust "automatic".

I was never able to reproduce this problem, so I'm closing it.
I think it's certainly possible it's attributable to an FTP client in the wrong
mode, as Timur Tabi suggested.
