I suspect that your copy of Zork 1 is corrupt on the device. Did you transfer
it to the device using the FTP or
Web method? There appears to be a timing bug in FTP which can occasionally
cause file transfers to not transfer
the file completely and truncate the file.
If you did use FTP, please try retransferirng Zork 1 using the web interface
and see if it addresses the problem.
If not, please let me know, and specify which revision of the Zork 1 data file
you are using if you know it.
Thanks.

It's release 15 in z5 format if that helps. I loaded first by FTP, removed it
and then uploaded again with
the web upload both with the same results.
I think the problem might have something to do with the autosave. When I
removed the autosave.sav file
the story loaded at the beginning successfully. Once I exited to write this the
same blank screen
occurred again. Maybe If there was a way to disable autosave? Right now to play
where I left off I'll have
to delete the autosave file via FTP every time I exit.

That's bizarre -- there was no Release 15 in Z5 format; Release 15 was really
early, before even Z3 existed.
The only releases I know of that were released in Z5 were release 52 and German
release 3.
Could you try a different release of the file and see if the problem still
happens?
If you don't have one, I've attached Release 52 to this issue.

And If you wouldn't mind attaching your zork1 as well, I can try to debug it.
(I'm assuming it's okay to be trading these files, since we both already have
at least one version of the game,
plus Activision released them for free a few yeas ago.)

Even though it has been renamed with a .z5 extension this is actually a Z2 (!)
data file.
It is not officially supported, and there are probably differences in the
Z-machine V2 format that aren't handled
correctly by Frotz. If I can identify the problem fairly easily, I'll fix it
for the next version, but there still may be
other problems in V2 support so I'd recommending using a newer release of Zork
1.
I believe the file I attached should work better for you.
