no files created on sync #98

scbarton commented 1 year ago

I'm a new user just setting up obsidan-omnivore sync. I'm able to initiate a sync and I see the "Articles Fetched" notification, but no files or folders are created in my obsidian vault.

Can I get some suggestions on how to troubleshoot this? In any case, thanks for providing this software.

Same thing here. Was curious and installed this today, as well as created an account. I'm seeing the notifications as well, but no files/folders are being created. I even created a Omnivore folder, just in case that as required to get things going, and nothing was created on sync.

I'm also having this issue. It fetched the articles just fine when I first tried it, but after changing some of the settings like the front mattter data, it wouldn't retrieve the articles anymore.

For me, sync seems to have been restored, even though I didn't make any changes. Because of the other commenters, I'll leave this open for a few more days...

Still nothing for me. Checked for updates and forced a sync. Same messages, but nothing created anywhere that I can tell.

What worked for me was disabling, uninstalling, and reinstalling the plugin every time I had to make changes to the settings. It's inefficient but at least it works now.

Even this does not work for me. Please describe the procedure in more detail

Any time I want to make changes, I would note down the existing settings that I want to keep first. Then uninstall the plugin and reinstall it. Once it’s installed, I’d put in the previous settings AND the changes that I want. I’d run the sync again to test if the output works for me. If it does, I leave it as is. If it doesn’t I’ll reinstall before making changes.

I'm having this same issue. I was doing the initial setup trying to get my settings set up like I want so I would delete some imported articles, modify the settings and start another import. But now none of the three articles I have saved are coming through. Kind of unusable for me if I have to uninstall the plugin and reinstall anytime I need to make some adjustments to a template or other setting.

ededdneddyfan commented 10 months ago

Confirming that the workaround from @frogjumpwell works - disabling, uninstalling, then re-installing the app and doing all settings changes before clicking sync got my sync working correctly

excessivereason commented 10 months ago

That does fixes it for me.... until I go in and change the template, delete the synced files and try to resync. Then it doesn't work again.

You can try clearing out the 'Last Sync' field in plugin setting and syncing again. That item tracks your sync progress, so any changes before that date won't repeat sync to local. Reinstalling the plugin is helpful because it empties that field on a fresh install. Similarly, deleting and re-saving articles in Omnivore can restore syncing."

hey, sorry for the late reply.

i think one possibility is the filter settings. it sets to "import only highlights" by default and once the sync is finished the last sync timestamp will be updated to the current time.

one way to resolve it is to change the filter setting to either "import all articles" or use the "advanced" filter if you know the search syntax and then run a full resync by using the command palette.

i will be working on some improvement mentioning in this ticket: https://github.com/omnivore-app/omnivore/issues/2468

it appears to be working, thanks for your help

Edit: The plugin settings are weird. Sometimes, changing settings fixes it, sometimes, it breaks it. I've gotten it to work for now, but I'm not touching my setting anymore.

I believe I am experiencing this same issue. I've synced, resynced, and nothing populated the Omnivore folder. All of my settings are default, including the filter, so the full article should be saved by default. I added a few highlights and notes and those did not move over either. I have removed the plugin, created a new API key, and reinstalled the plugin using my new API key, and same result. I am on iOS 17.3.
