Telegram looks like a promising alternative to a service like what's app. It could be an ideal client for a messaging client alternative to SMS. It's more secure then What's app but more importantly offers an API.

I haven't found where they expose a web api but I came across this command line library

Neat, there are a bunch of these, Viber of course too. We'll do a fuller research session when this comes up, closing.
