Given that one of the strong use of Cantas is on-premise-behind-firewall instance, I would think that something like SAML or SPNEGO (HTTP Negotiate) would be more useful.

I am a big fan of Mozilla technology (having Firefox OS phone and all that), but even Mozilla folks kind of classify Persona as a failure, I am not sure I would bother with it too much.
