I'm surprised because on my iPhone the volume control works fine.

I tried it again and the volume control is indeed working (?) but the sound is
distorted at all volume levels.
Attached are two audio files to show this by calls to my LAN Asterisk echo
service.
The input gain to the computer sound card was adjusted so the loudest iphone
headphone volume setting with Siphon output would not clip. For each one I
start at
50% iphone headphone volume, ramp up to 100% then back down to 50%. The first
sample is Siphon, and the second was done immediately afterwards with Truphone,
and
no change to computer input audio settings.
Note how the Siphon audio is always clipped (i.e. look at waveform in a
graphical
audio viewer), and Truphone audio is not clipped even when headphone volume is
at 100%.
Perhaps when you decode (and maybe encode too?) to ulaw there may be a math
error or
something else feeding clipped digital audio values to the iphone hardware.

With beta 8 the sound is no longer too loud and clipped - this appears to be
fixed!
