This doesn't seem to be an issue with code. Rather, one of us had touch the view, probably I did, and make minor tweak to it that actually broke the viz thumbnail in resource browser.
This tweak cause Drupal to use the view definition save in database rather than the code, which has the right definition and new column.
I revert the view through views UI, so now Drupal is using the views definition from code which has the right thumbnail code and created date.
