Okay, so I called the number on the map but they didn't have information about the data side of the map. They told me to reach out to 311 and check with them.
I sent an email to 311 but will call them tomorrow.
This is in regards to the Historic and Airport overlay zones specifically. I also sent an email out for the floodpro site but will try to call tomorrow if I don't get a reply.
"At the moment, we do not have any floodplain information available information on the open data portal. One must request the information through FloodPro. For the FEMA floodplain information, FEMA is the official custodian for that information so you will need to use the map service center to acquire their data. (We have published a guide here).
As for the Fully Developed conditions floodplains, we tend not to give out the City of Austin as a whole because they are updated several times a year and we were running into some issues with having outdated data floating around. You can get to watershed specific floodplain data, by downloading the hydraulic spatial data from FloodPro.
Might I ask what you are using the data for, I might be able to help you get a copy."
In response to the flood data.
311 said they weren't in charge of the zone map stuff either so I need to figure that out.
"I know that FEMA has WMS services that you might be able to ingest, I sent an email to the IT folk asking about getting a rest point set up for the fully developed floodplains. I have not heard back from them yet.
As an FYI, I while back I had a start-up call about doing something similar and I never heard anything from them.
Good luck on the app, and let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
Kevin"
Got a phone call back about the zoning data but missed it. 😫 I'll be giving a call back tomorrow during lunch. Going to check in with what the web dev map people say before checking in with Julie.
Playing phone tag for the Development web map data source
Today I talked to Stacey Meeks who had more information about the Web Development map.
According to her, the data on the Open Data portal is updated monthly. That means that the historical districts and zoning districts get updated if needed but we can assume changes aren't frequent with their zoning.
So essentially, The web map for Austin gets updated more frequently than the data portal but the info used on the data portal is the same information on the web maps.
I will be hearing back from Stacey on Monday because she is going to talk to the people that run the web map.
We should use the same zoning maps used by the permitting office(s) to check addresses. This is important so users aren't given old or wrong zoning results.
