Use data to prioritize fire station expansion #60

Open mateoclarke opened 8 years ago

What problem are we trying to solve?

:fire: :fire_engine: Austin is growing and the Fire Department, Public Safety Commission, and the Fire Fighters Union agree we need more stations in town. AFD has a target to respond to fires within 8 minutes. Travel time is closer to 4 minutes.

If we had access to fire incident response times, we could find the geographic areas with the most need for more stations.

Who will benefit (directly and indirectly) from this project?

AFD, Public Safety Commission, City Council members, neighbor advocates.

What are the next steps (validation, research, coding, design)?

Search for relevant data. More research. Discuss needs with stakeholders.
