From Sierra Club, Illinois Chapter:

The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit for the City of Chicago's combined sewer overflows recently went on public notice. We sent comments on the permit (attached) and requested a public hearing, which is scheduled for June 30 at 3pm at the Thompson Center (Hearing notice and Public notice).

The permit authorizes discharges from 184 CSO discharge points into parts of the Chicago River, Cal Sag Channel, Little Calumet and Des Plaines Rivers. The City's CSO control program fails to meet requirements in the National CSO Policy, which was incorporated into the Clean Water Act, and the permit doesn't include new requirements to address these deficiencies.
