Future of Open Design Kit? #298

Hello all,

It's been just shy of a year since anyone touched this repo. Can anyone from Wikimedia give any updates? If there's no longer bandwidth to support it there, I think it's worth exploring whether the project has a future elsewhere (even if it's just here on github / opendesignkit.org).

There's more distributed UX work taking place than ever, and I feel this project could still be useful to a lot of folks, especially with some updates and additions to methods.

Just wanted to get a temperature check here. Thanks, all.

I still use this project. I added a rocket emoji to your OP to show that I still value it. Maybe others will do the same (rather than a long list of "I still use this project" replies. Plus it's easy and quick.)

@marcucci I still reference it as well. There's plenty that needs updating, but the core methods are very useful.

It looks like @iamjessklein is still our contact at Wikimedia, though it looks like she doesn't use Github anymore. I'm gonna shoot her a message on Twitter and ask about it.

I would judge from the lack of movement for ≈ 2 years that they're no longer interested in supporting it. The way I see it, there are two ways forward:

  1. [preferred] We ask WM to relinquish stewardship and continue using this repository, publishing it on a service like Netlify
  2. We utilize the open-source license and create a new version.

I'll post here with a follow-up.

Howdy and thanks for pinging and following up with me on this @mjchamplin Due to the stagnancy of the project, Wikimedia is going to return opendesignkit to community stewardship. (Option 1 as you have listed here).

I am so happy that there is still interest in the project and would love to personally help it evolve into a meaningful resource.
