If someone with write access for labels could add an environmental-sustainability
one that would be fantastic, thank you! β¨ π³
Lastly, on a personal note, I am preparing a talk for GitOpsCon about the intersection of GitOps and environmental sustainability with an emphasis on gathering metrics to prove the above claims. I look forward to sharing these findings with you all very soon! π

Meeting is today, see you all soon! Looking forward to kicking off this subgroup with you all. π₯³
I won't be able to join today, but I'll rearrange my calendar to be on the next one. Glad to see these two topics together!
Using the regular zoom meet for now: https://zoom.us/j/93779536510?pwd=TEFzbGRzREI3MVlkZmluemVkMEhHdz09
Happy to join in on creating thematic subgroups by suggesting that we organise one around environmental sustainability. π±
GitOps & Environmental Sustainability Subgroup
A few folks have raised this issue in meetings and shown interest in engaging with it further.
Async discussions have continued here in an effort to produce a whitepaper on the topic.
Many folks who contribute to OpenGitOps also contribute to the Environmental Sustainability TAG. We know more about the state of environmental sustainability in the cloud native space, so we can inform our work here and bridge that gap.
GitOps tools and practices have a lot of potential to be integrated with "green" tools and practices for carbon emission reduction/scheduling/load-shifting, energy optimisation, smarter resource allocation, etc.
GitOps practices in themselves, if done well, also encourage "green" aims such as smarter resource allocation and the creation of strict policies around this. These can lead to less wasted resources and better garbage collection.
When?
Proposing similar hours to @williamcaban for our first meet:
