Shapes go outside of the grid when sizing up near an edge

This appears to be a carryover from the original Sato Shapes tool. In the original game, an attempt to increase the shape size at a location where doing so would go over the edge causes nothing to happen.

This is intended behavior; the rationale being that it allows for some interesting shapes to be created that otherwise wouldn't be possible in the original game.
