It would be helpful to have inlined source code documentation. Doxygen seems like the logical pick, since it is used in Open MPI. Unfortunately, Doxygen doesn't natively support Perl, but there is a [http://www.bigsister.ch/doxygenfilter Perl Doxygen Filter] that may help with this.
