Breath of the Wild: The Hero Who Never Was #4

Here's another fun one from Aaron Suduiko over at withaterriblefate.com. He makes the case that Link in Breath of the Wild is actually a Sheikah automaton, birthed at the start of the game (rather than revived). The interesting point here is that the player is controlling an automaton, blurring the lines between player and avatar. It explores the choices the player makes while discovering more about Link's life. It's a theory about responsibility, and how much we as players have in the worlds we play.

On the surface, it's a fun theory. But as you go deeper, you start to feel the importance of viewing the connection between players and avatars in a more serious light. It's hard to describe, and very Aaron.

And even better (because the purists are gonna come swinging attitude this theory for sure (it's that kind of far fetched feeling theory), here's a critical review by Nathan Randall. Looking at both together is important for getting the most depth out of this theory.
