GDTF not in BlenderDMX library not importing properly... #13

Downloading/using any other GDTF files gives me a load of errors:

Screen Shot 2022-02-15 at 11 37 26 AM

I have tried using a few different GDTF files (Robe BMFL Spot, Ayrton Diablo) from the GDTF share but no dice! (It won't allow me to upload them here because they are not a supported file type.)

tesslights commented 2 years ago

Never mind, got it here: https://gdtf-share.com/share.php?page=home&manu=Robe%20Lighting&fix=Robin%20BMFL%20Spot&rev=21712 https://gdtf-share.com/share.php?page=home&manu=Ayrton&fix=Diablo&rev=17150

hugoaboud commented 2 years ago

I've downloaded the Ayrton Diablo and it fails with a different (but possibly related0 message. I'm looking into it.

Please try the following hotfix and let me know if it works.

It adds support to GDTF Profiles including "Pigtails". Also fixes an scaling issue of custom 3D models exported in different scales.

⚠️ Make sure to remove the currently installed add-on before installing this one. blenderDMX-v0.5.0-hotfix1.zip

Ahhh that just crashes Blender every time I try to start a new show!

I need you to run Blender from the terminal, so we can see the crash log:

Copy everything that appears on the terminal and paste it here.

I've had a similar trouble while testing the hotfix, due to unclean removal of the addon. Rebooting the system solved it for me.

tesslights commented 2 years ago

Ah, I'm on a mac... is that going to be a problem? I can try it on a pc if you think we'll be more successful.

  • Navigate to the Blender installation folder (Usually just type cd "C:/Program Files/Blender Foundation/Blender 3.0/" and Enter)

The concept remains the same, however the commands are different:

tesslights commented 2 years ago

Oh interesting! When opening it in Terminal, it works just fine. New issue though... When you move the target empty around in Blender, and then click elsewhere to select something else, it zeroes out the position of the empty. This happens with both of the GDTF fixtures I'm trying to use, and I tried the "Moving Beam" from the BlenderDMX fixture library, and a) the empty's home position is in a very strange location, and b) it does return to this strange home position after clicking away from the fixture.

Does it keep crashing when opening outside of the terminal? Have you rebooted and tried both again? The behaviour should be the same for both..

About the target, that's more of a UX issue I'm trying to find the best way around. The issue is: when you change selection, it updates the DMX values of fixtures, and since your programmer/ArtNet is setting the fixture Pan/Tilt to 0/0, it goes back. This doesn't happen on static fixtures.

I have tried updating Pan/Tilt values from dragging the target, but due to Blender limitations it causes an infinite loop. Still trying to figure it out..

After rebooting it opens just fine now. So that’s great.

Once I can get the artnet functioning it’ll be easier to navigate of course! I’ll try with a loop back on my pc this afternoon.

How have you been successful getting artnet in? I’ve now tried from my PC using the grandMA3 as well as on grandMA2 onPC software on the same computer and the loop back IP, but with no success.

I'll close this issue with the hotfix link, let's discuss ArtNet on the other one.
