Cancel Sustainability Semantic Conventions SIG

The sponsors of the Sustainability Semantic Conventions SIG (@pyohannes and myself) along with the @open-telemetry/governance-committee have decided to cancel this SIG and its project.

We really appreciate the efforts from the contributors that helped put together the original scope of the project, especially @Spazzy757 as project lead, who has recently had to step down. We have not found anyone to step in as a project lead. In addition, since its inception, we have not seen the levels of engagement required from a range of contributors to make an OpenTelemetry project successful and adhere to defined timelines. For these reasons, we have decided to stop current efforts in this area.

We acknowledge that sustainability, and standardisation of its measurements, is an area of increasing focus for many organisations, and would love to consider a new proposal with the right level of engagement from its participants. We therefore leave the door open, as always, for anyone to take the current project proposal and re-submit it following our current project template, re-scoping it if necessary.

In order to cancel this SIG, the following actions need to be completed:

• [x] Cancel public meeting
• [x] Cancel Zoom meeting
• [x] Delete semconv-sustainability-approvers team
• [x] Close project board
• [x] Close any issues or PRs with area:sustainability labels
• [x] Archive #otel-sustainability-semconv-sig Slack channel
